Some Presentations that impressed me

Hans Rosling TED Talk is a legendary talk of the Swedish professor Hans Rosling. I was very much impressed by the way the data is visualized in his presentation.

My study about Sub-Prime Crisis

Posted by venu4u on June 23, 2008

My RCA (Root Cause Analysis) of US Sub-Prime Crisis enlightened me about Credit Derivatives.

As I read through THE AMERICAN, it explained why the Fed’s current fight by infusing liquidity into the market to contain the losses from Sub-prime is not in the right direction.

“…In short, government fosters economic growth when its policy mix includes low taxes on capital, income, and profits; sensible regulation and low barriers to trade; and stable money. Therefore, the stimulus bill, the Fed’s recent monetary easing, and the growing threats of trade protectionism are all unhelpful errors that portend harder economic times ahead.

Later on, THE ECONOMIST highlights some prescriptions in the book review for THE TRILLION DOLLAR MELTDOWN Easy Money, High Rollers, and the Great Credit Crash By CHARLES R. MORRIS

“…originators should retain the riskiest portion of securitised loans; prime brokers should stop lending to hedge funds that fail to disclose their balance sheets; trading of credit derivatives should be brought onto exchanges for the sake of safety, even if this raises costs; and some version of the old Glass-Steagall act, which separated commercial banking and capital-markets activities, should be re-introduced.”

ELCC & MHB

Posted by venu4u on June 23, 2008

Ethical Leadership & Corporate citizenship (ELCC) and Managing Human Behavior (MHB) are the courses taught to us to mold ourselves into responsible corporate citizens. Attending these classes some how makes me think of a ideal world which is distant from reality. But, i feel they are very relevant towards achieving those ideals. Today we had a session on Johari window. It basically analyzes the various aspects of ourself in terms of our knowledge of our own self vis-a-vis other’s perception about ourselves. It gives a fair estimate of how receptive you are to taking feedback from others so that you become aware of your blindspots (what you don’t know about yourself but other’s know about you). The only thing I find it hard is, how do you keep yourself aware always about these stuff in a busy corporate life unless and until you make it a habit. Let me see how far I will succeed in operationalizing (in marketing parlance) these principles.
